Written for technology architects and individuals interested in the Open Source Solutions (OSS) that are available to build Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) and how they compare to commercial products, this paper defines SOA and describes its primary benefits, as well as outlines key features of SOA components. Building on this foundation, this paper addresses the open source perspective, identifying synergies between OSS and SOA. Finally, several available OSS projects and two sample SOA OSS stacks are presented.
