Open Source Ecommerce
Over the last years quite a range of eCommerce technologies and platforms have been implemented and published as Open Source software. SourceForge alone lists more than 200 projects in the context of eCommerce. Most of these are either eCommerce platforms and tools or extensions to CRM/ERP platforms. Two of the most often used Open Source eCommerce technologies are osCommerce and OfBiz (Apache Open for Business). Around these two projects there are a number of others that offer extensions, add-ons, plug-ins or spezializations. This allows the developer to leverage a rich portfolio of code fragments and functionalities without always starting from scratch. osCommerce and OfBiz are not niche produts at all, thousands of shops actually are based on these two platforms, and with good reasons.
